Lake Bled

Lake Bled is Slovenia's most famous attraction and also the reason we first wanted to visit this country. The emerald-green lake surrounds an island with a few buildings, the most prominent being a Baroque church. We rowed out to the island in a small boat, walked up the ninety-nine steps, rang the church bell and made a wish.

Ljubljana

We had previously visited all the countries surrounding Slovenia—Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia—but somehow bypassed this small country in Central Europe. In the centre of Slovenia is Ljubljana, the capital and the country's largest city. We stayed here for a day and explored the Old Town.
