The Whitepod Eco-Luxury Hotel is located in the Swiss Alps, approximately two hours from Geneva. A train takes you to the town of Monthey where you need to catch a taxi or bus to get up the mountain to the small village of Les Giettes.
At check-in we were given a backpack with a map, headlamps and snowshoes. A fifteen-minute hike later we arrived at our pod, which is one of fifteen on the side of the cliff overlooking Lake Geneva. A white igloo-like dome with a clear window in the front, it blends seamlessly into the snow-covered surroundings. Inside is a spacious room with a separate bathroom and an automatic fireplace to keep the pod warm and cosy.
The restaurant Les Cerniers is next door to the reception. Wearing our headlamps, we would hike down every night for dinner. The restaurant serves classic mountain dishes, including our favourite, cheese fondue. Breakfast and afternoon tea are served in the Pod House, a chalet near the pods. This also has a sauna and media room for guests.
There are several activities to keep busy in the winter. Skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, and dogsledding are all great ways to spend time on the top of the mountain.
