Somewhere between Iceland and Scotland lies a string of 18 islands known as the Faroe Islands. Connected by roads, ferries and helicopters, the islands are a self-governing territory of Denmark.
VAGAR
The international airport is located on the island of Vagar. The island also has Lake Sørvágsvatn, the largest lake in the Faroe Islands which appears to float above the ocean. A tunnel now connects the isolated village of Gasadalur and the Múlafossur waterfall to the rest of the island.
STREYMOY & EYSTUROY
The two largest and most populated islands. The picturesque villages of Saksun, Tjørnuvík and Gjogv are located on the northern coast while the capital, Tórshavn, is in the south of Streymoy.

One night we joined seven other strangers at Anna and Óli’s home for a Faroese meal. Heimablídni translates to “home hospitality” and is a unique experience on the Faroe Islands. Locals welcome visitors into their homes for a traditional home-cooked meal and also a glimpse into their lives.
